EXODUS ENERGY DEVELOPS GASIFICATION
FACILITY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Monday), November 1, 2004
HOUSTON - Exodus Energy LLC (Exodus) today announced
that its subsidiary,
Exodus Gasification LLC (Exodus Gasification), is developing
a petroleum coke gasification facility in Corpus Christi,
Texas. The Exodus Gasification facility will utilize clean
fuel technology to convert petroleum coke into hydrogen
and steam for industrial use.
Exodus Gasification will develop a site near Corpus Christi’s
Ship Channel for the gasification plant. Construction is
expected to commence by the end of 2005, and the plant
is expected to be operational by mid-2008. Once operational,
the plant will have the capacity to process approximately
2700 tons of petroleum coke to produce up to 120 million
standard cubic feet of hydrogen per day and 400,000 pounds
of exportable steam per hour.
"Rising natural gas prices have a direct impact on
the market price of hydrogen, and there is a need for alternative,
cost-effective supply sources for hydrogen," said
Tom Georgis, Vice President, Exodus. "The Exodus Gasification
project will provide industrial customers with an alternative
source of low cost hydrogen, which many require to reduce
sulphur levels in gasoline and diesel to meet Tier 2 regulation
standards. In addition, the project will offer a practical,
long-term local market for petroleum coke."
The facility plans to utilize proven technology licensed
by ConocoPhillips Company Technology Solutions Division,
General Electric or Shell. R.W. Beck, Inc. will serve as
owner’s engineer and technical adviser for the gasification
process.
